From July this year, Kaunas Airport will offer several new destinations for travellers to Germany - passengers will be able to reach Cologne and Nuremberg from the second largest air gate of the country. “Ryanair” aircrafts will fly there, they will run flights both in summer and winter seasons.

Flights from Kaunas to Cologne Bonn Airport are planned on Wednesdays and Saturdays. Flights to Nuremberg will take place on Tuesdays and Saturdays.

“Germany is the second most popular country to which passengers from Lithuania fly, and the number of tourists from Germany is one of the largest in the country. Furthermore, it is observed that German companies and entrepreneurs are increasingly finding a favourable environment for investment in Lithuania”, - says Aurimas Stikliūnas, Head of Aviation Services Division of Lithuanian Airports.

A. Stikliūnas claims that requests for more convenient flights to Germany are also coming from Kaunas City Municipality, business development and tourism organizations, therefore these inquiries were taken into account when determining new directions.

According to the head of Kaunas Airport Karol Matulaitis, the German giant “Hella”, which started its activities in Kaunas FEZ last year, had a significant influence on the emergence of these directions. The company “Continental” should also start its operations at full capacity this fall.

“Both automotive electronics giants will hire more than 1,500 employees in Kaunas, some of whom will come from abroad. Rapid growth of the number of travellers and promotion of investment in the country are the main reasons why we are strengthening the bridges between Lithuania and Germany“, – notes K. Matulaitis.

Until now, only cargo aircrafts flew from Kaunas Airport to Cologne, and operation of flights was ordered by the international logistics company “UPS”.

By the way, Germany is a country to which flights were requested by businessmen from Western Lithuania, the Municipalities Association “Klaipėda Region”, as well as tourism organizations, therefore, following joint negotiations, passengers will be flown from Palanga air gate to Dortmund twice a week by “Wizz Air” airlines from April.

Flights from Vilnius to Germany are operated by “Lufthansa”, “airBaltic”, “Ryanair” and “Wizz Air”, trips are offered to six different cities of the country.

Passengers of all three Lithuanian airports are currently offered 94 directions, of which more than 20 are direct flights to other capitals.
